The Core Commander is a boss fought within the Desert of Beginnings. It is the final story boss of Core Keeper.
Summoning[]
The Core Commander can be summoned for the first time by interacting with and shattering the Crystal Meteorite after obtaining all six titan souls.
Once defeated, it can be re-summoned by placing a Core Commander Summoning Idol on the rune inside the meteorite.
Behavior[]
In both phases, the Core Commander is initially invulnerable, with three spheres orbiting it. When a sphere is defeated, it will fall to the ground, remain stationary, and continuously release damaging electric orbs in a pentagonal pattern. Defeating all three spheres will paralyze the Core Commander and make it vulnerable to damage for a period of time. After that, all spheres will restore to full health and begin orbiting again, and the fight continues. The player have to repeat this to deplete Core Commander's health. The Core Commander's health loss during each vulnerable period is soft-capped at 50% max health, meaning that player has to paralyze it at least two times to defeat a phase (four times at total).
Phase 1[]
The Core Commander have three different kinds of attacks during phase 1:
- Summons lightning bolts near the player, with 4 different patterns. All these attacks will stay around the location at which they were summoned, and will not follow the player's movement.
- Surrounds the player with a circle of lightning bolts, with an opening on a random direction. The lightning bolts will orbit around for a short period, and close in.
- Summons two rows of lightning bolts above and below the player, with an opening on both of the rows. The lightning bolts will quickly close in after a brief delay.
- Summons a total of three groups of lightning bolts that close in on the player.
- Summons a single lightning bolt that close in on the player at relatively fast speed.
- Periodically summons numerous purple whirlwinds that pulls nearby players. After a whirlwind deals damage to the player, it will disappear.
- The summon location of whirlwinds is indicated by glowing runes on the ground. However, contrary to the visuals, the whirlwind will be able to deal damage earlier than they have formed from the runes. They can even directly generate below the player, resulting in immediate damage before the player can react.
- Fires three triangular projectiles that directly home in on the player and deal high damage. They dissipate upon hitting a block or after several seconds.
After depleting Core Commander's health, it restores to full health, becomes the "Unleashed Core Commander", and enters its second phase.
Phase 2[]
In addition to attacks from phase 1, the Core Commander gains a new attack: informed by a striking sound, the Core Commander turns space around it into void, leaving three circular safe zones. The location of the safe zone are usually near the orbiting spheres. Staying in void inflicts the player with a debuff which damages the player at a rate of 20% health per second, forcing the player to stay in the safe zones. The same lightning bolt attacks used in phase 1 (except the single lightning bolt attack) will be performed around all the safe zones. The safe zone will shrink in size over time, eventually to a radius of about only 1 tile, then this attack ends. If the Core Commander is paralyzed during this attack, the attack will end immediately.
