Ghorm the Devourer is the second progressional boss in Core Keeper and relatively easy to beat. This guide is meant to keep the fight clean and simple.
Early Info[]
Stat | Casual | Standard | Hard |
---|---|---|---|
Health | 4030 | 8061 | 12092 |
Damage | 39-47 | 78-94 | 155-189 |
Ghorm is found circling The Core at around 200-230 tiles away, leaving a large trail of destruction in its path. Additionally, you can locate Ghorm with the Ghorm the Devourer Scanner, which will track its movement until it is killed. Any normal enemy will be instantly killed if hit by it.
Gear[]
At this point in progression, you will have a few options. For a general approach, the Bronze armor is best as it boosts both physical melee and range attacks along with good defense. The Chieftain armor is the best normal progression Summoning armor, and the Apprentice armor is the best Magic.
Abnormal Progress. If you go to a later biome than the normal difficulty progression, in this case The Forgotten Ruins. You could get numerous better equipment options, but for the sake of the guide; these won't be listed.
There is now a handful of accessible weapons, such as the tin axe, that provide a better selection for the fight. Now using only one summon from the Tome of the Dark wouldn't be very useful due to low damage, but summoning multiple could be fairly effective. Range weapons would work best due to the continuous movement of Ghorm, so a flintlock musket or a slingshot may be reasonable.
Consumables/Food[]
A good option of food is the Yellow Blister Head, which allows the player to tread normally on ground slime without being slowed for 10 minutes. Another good choice is to combine a heart berry and a mushroom to make a cheap, good health restoration cooked food item.
Additionally, a Rock Jaw/Gem Crab combo would make a good close combat cooked food item.
Arena Setup[]
For a normal fight, all you need is an emptied area around a section of Ghorm's path.
Alternate Strategy. Now this strategy is very popular and easy to do, all you need is about 150 spike trap, or 300 wooden spike trap. You start by setting all of the spike traps along Ghorms path, so when it comes along, it will run over all of them and take immense damage.
Additionally, you could plant bombs along Ghorm's path dealing heavy damage to it and if done enough, can kill it easily.
The Battle[]
If you are doing a generic fight, you'll start in front of Ghorm. As it comes down the path, start shooting projectiles at it. Continue this until it is enraged and starts to attack. Its attack simply consists of going in a figure eight in the vicinity of the player, causing massive landscape damage to the area. It'll leave behind a trail of ground slime, this is where the food made with yellow blister head would come in handy. Continue to dadge it while shooting at it or lunge in nearby it and swipe it with a melee weapon until it dies.
Alternatively, you can use the spike trap or bomb strategies to kill Ghorm.
Addtional Note. It is best to fight Ghorm far away from any builds you may have as to protect them from destruction.
Aftermath[]
Ghorm will drop its chest like every other boss, it'll contain loot like a Larva Ring or Arcane Staff. There are some 100% chance loot like the Mysterious Idol, which will summon the Cloaked Merchant, and the Ghorm's Stomach Bag. It'll also contain the Ghorm's Horn, which can be placed in the Ghorm Statue near The Core and is required to progress.
