Fishing is a mechanic in Core Keeper that allows the player to catch fish and other rare loot using a fishing rod.
The player may hold the right mouse button while holding a fishing rod to charge, then release it to cast one to three blocks in the direction of the cursor, depending on the amount of time it was held down.
The player is able to catch fish in any liquid, however if the rod is cast into a bubbling fish shoal, they will get a bite more quickly and with a guaranteed chance of the catch being a fish. Once the fishing rod's bobber is bobbing, indicating that a fish has been caught on the hook, the player has a few more seconds to press the right mouse button to catch the fish or loot.
If the Legacy fishing minigame gameplay setting is enabled and there is a fish on the hook, the player will have to play a short minigame to catch it.
The cast or minigame can be canceled any time by unequipping the fishing rod or moving the character, but is not cancelled by opening the inventory
Minigame[]
At the start of the minigame, two bars show up. The top one shows the progress the player has made in catching the fish, while the bottom one shows how close your fishing line is to breaking. The goal is to get the fish all the way to the left of the progress bar, while not allowing the line to break.
During the minigame, the fish tries to break free, cycling between periods of escaping, indicated by the fish turning red and shaking, and resting, indicated by the fish being calm and not tinted. During the rest period, the player must hold the right click button to bring the fish closer to the left, thus progressing the minigame, and stop just before its escape period, since pulling while the fish is resisting will cause the line to break much faster and does not progress the minigame.
Each fish has its own unique cycle. For example, the Orange Cave Guppy has a long escape period, a long rest period, then repeats, and the Rock Jaw has a very short escape, a short rest, a very short escape, a short rest, a very short escape, a medium rest, then repeats. It is therefore possible to recognize the type of fish about to be caught depending on its cycle.
