Spawning in[]
When you first spawn in, you'll find yourself in a room full of roots and strange stone structures. Your first goal should be to craft torches and basic wood tools. You have to stand near a root and use left click. These can be easily crafted with wood from the nearby roots. After that, get familiar with the controls and start exploring around by digging through the walls. Your main goal should be finding copper ore.
Food[]
Your starting food rations are low so you should try to find yourself some food. While mushrooms are plentiful at first, better crops such as Heart Berries, Bomb Peppers, and Glow Tulips are common in this area, and provide useful bonuses when cooked. These items will drop seeds which, after tilling the ground with a hoe, can be planted. After watering them with a watering can, they will slowly start to grow. If you have obtained root seeds by this point, plant those in a separate area and give them plenty of space, they can get out of hand given time. Farming is an important part of the game and should not be neglected. When you get enough resources, make a Cooking Pot (or 2). Combining different foods is beneficial to give yourself multiple buffs, but as a rule of thumb, you should usually cook your food.
Basic crafting and mining[]
Of course to craft tools such as a watering can and a copper hoe, you'll need to make a basic workbench. This will allow you to make tools out of wood. A Copper Workbench is your next priority, giving access to copper tools and more items and stations. Copper ore is a plentiful resource in the dirt caves and can be found by looking for sparkling blocks. Once obtained, craft a furnace to smelt your ore into copper bars. These can be used to craft farming tools, upgraded mining gear, and better weaponry.
Salvage and Repair Station[]
This station has three functions. Pressing the gray button will destroy everything currently stored on the table. This will refund you a portion of the resources used in crafting the item. This function can only be used on tools, weapons, and armor.
The second function is repairing. Pressing the blue button will enter you into repair mode. Hover over items to see the repair cost, then click to repair the item. This will fully restore that item's durability. Repairing items will usually require an amount of scrap, depending on the item and its durability.
The third function is improvement. Pressing the orange button (not displayed) will enter you into improvement mode. Hover over items to see the improvement cost, then click to improve the item. This will fully restore that item's durability, double it, and it will temporarily improve its statistics
Cooking Pot[]
At this station, you can combine two ingredients together to make cooked food. Cooked food can provide a range of benefits depending on what ingredients are combined. Cooked foods also increase benefits of foods, and provide extra bonuses, such as bomb peppers giving extra movement speed.
Copper Anvil[]
This is where you can craft different armors, and weapons. Later, more advanced anvils can create alternative weaponry.
Tin Workbench[]
The next level of crafting station. Created from Wood, Copper Bars, and Tin Bars (obtained from the second area, The Clay Caves), this should be your next goal.
Goals[]
Now that you are familiar with your surroundings, let's talk goals. Your first primary task is to hunt down Glurch the Abominous Mass. This giant slime can be found in the slime infested areas of the caves. You'll know you're close by the quakes of its jumps. Don't be worried though, it jumps in place and won't attack until you're within about 4-5 tiles of it. Make sure you're well prepared before taking it on. Food will help, especially foods cooked with bomb peppers for the speed bonus. Copper armour and a copper sword or a bow are recommended for this fight, as well as a Swift Feather, however this is optional. More info can be found in the Defeating Glurch guide.
