Malugaz the Corrupted is an early-game boss found within the Forgotten Ruins.
Defeating Malugaz drops the Stolen Crystal Heart, an item required for progression.
Summoning[]
Malugaz, unlike most bosses, is not spawned upon world generation. The player must find the Caveling Throne Room scene, which generates approximately 300 tiles from The Core in the Forgotten Ruins.
A Malugaz the Corrupted Scanner can be used to reveal the room's location on the map.
The room is surrounded by a large maze-like dungeon filled with Cavelings that the player must traverse through, since its walls are too strong to break early-game.
Once the room is located, Malugaz can be summoned by placing a Skull of the Corrupted Shaman on the rune in the center of it.
Behavior[]
Malugaz is a two-phase boss. He must be fought in the Throne Room that he spawns in for both phases or he will teleport back to the room and regenerate any lost health. He will attack any players that stand near the entrance and attacking him while he is outside will begin regenerating his health.
First form[]
During the first phase Malugaz will alternate between two attacks. Malugaz will throw 2-3 fireballs at a player, then he will either teleport or summon a 3×3 lingering fire area of effect around the arena. His fireballs will destroy walls and furniture, but not flooring.
Second form[]
When Malugaz is brought to zero health he will enter his second phase, ripping off his cloak and hood, re-igniting himself (and the ground), and regaining full health. He will continue teleporting around the arena, but for this phase he will choose to launch himself forward and fight using close combat. His melee attacks leave the same 3×3 fire tiles as before, and his attacks also have a slight area-of-effect range when landing. His attacks will destroy walls, furniture, and tiles. Ranged players are to be advised that he is very dangerous during this phase, if you pull aggro focus on dodging and not attacking.
If all players die during the second phase, Malugaz will revert back to his first form.

Notes[]
- The fire created by Malugaz will automatically disappear after 30 seconds.
- On the console versions of the game, it disappears after 15 seconds instead.
- Watering cans can extinguish the fire on the ground, which can be helpful in co-op situations.
- In multiplayer, Malugaz gains additional health depending on the amount of players in the world. It will automatically adjust whenever a player joins or leaves the world.

Tips[]
- Malugaz is a deceptively hard boss, as he constantly causes large areas of the floor in the arena to catch fire, which is difficult to avoid and causes a lingering burning effect. The size of the arena also makes it difficult to maneuver, and the arena cannot be altered.
- Melee, especially with the iron halberd or battle axe, is useful due to the close distance throwing off the fireballs when Malugaz is circled. The flames, if not exstinguished, can also prevent a player from attacking Malugaz as he singles players out. If all players leave Malugaz's room, he will revert back to first form and heal.
- During second phase, Malugaz's attacks can be side stepped (especially with the dash feather), which makes this phase easier than the first due to the short frame reaction for the fireball attacks.
- For a detailed guide; go to Defeating Malugaz.
Trivia[]
- According to a post on the official twitter, "He is a collector of rare and valuable items and isn't above stealing from other creatures living in the underground!"
