An ore boulder is a large shard of ore that contains 1,800 raw ore.
In order to harvest these boulders, a Crude Drill or Drill must be placed on any of the boulder's sides, which will then need to be connected to an electricity source. Multiple drills can be placed against the boulder's sides, increasing the rate the ore is harvested. A maximum of 8 drills can be placed against a boulder; two on each of the four sides.
It is possible, with a weapon with high enough damage, to harvest these boulders with repeated attacks, such as the Rune Song's secondary attack.[1] However, this is slower than mining the surrounding biome walls for ore, and appears to be unintended.
The rate at which ore can be extracted from a boulder is 0.5–2.0 per minute over the course of 15–60 hours, depending on the amount and type of drills on it.
Once the drill is powered, the boulder will start shaking and making a *clink* noise with each hit. After the boulder is depleted, it will break and disappear.
Ore boulders are visible on the map as 2×2 squares of a single-color.
There are 9 types of ore boulders in the game, one for every metal ore.
Furnace, Smelter Kiln, and Fury Forge are all referred to as smelter(s) from this point, since they all convert ores to bars, but for different types of ores. Players must choose the correct building, depending on the ore type:
0.5.2.0-b84a: Ores from boulders now spawn in a random position inside the boulder, so having multiple Drills on the same boulder will not always yield ore from the same Drill.
