The Hive Mother an optional early-game boss found within the Larva Hive.
Summoning[]
The Hive Mother can be found approximately 330 tiles from The Core at the center of an extra large Larva Hive. A Hive Mother Scanner can be used to reveal her location on the map.
Once defeated, the Hive Mother can be re-summoned by placing a Hive Mother Summoning Idol on her rune, located below her original spawn point.
Behavior[]
Every 4–5 seconds, the Hive Mother spits acid which will fall from the sky onto the player. The acid deals moderate damage on impact and creates a small patch of Ground Acid Slime, which inflicts 12 acid damage per second when stood on.
Every 17–10 seconds (depending on her health), she will spawn a Larva Hive Egg at one of 5 locations in the arena. In multiplayer, she will spawn a second egg if there are at least 3 players in the world and a third if there are at least 6 players.
Unless they are killed, the Larva Hive Eggs will hatch after 7.4 seconds, spawning a Big Hive Larva plus one of the following enemy groups:
- 6–7 Hive Larvae
- 2 Big Hive Larvae
- 3 Acid Larvae
Once the Hive Mother reaches 60% health she will become enraged and begin shooting acid every 2–2.5 seconds instead. She will also start spawning an additional Larva Hive Egg.
Enemy variants[]
The enemies spawned from the Larva Hive Eggs have slightly different behavior and statistics. They all have a larger aggro radius, can aggro on players outside of line of sight and do not drop loot.
- The Hive Larva has more health and damage.
- The Big Hive Larva will break almost any objects/walls in its path.
- The Acid Larva deals significantly more explosive damage.

- The Haunted Hive Mother is a special Halloween-exclusive variant of the Hive Mother, summoned by using a Haunted Hive Mother Summoning Idol on her rune.
- In multiplayer, the Hive Mother gains additional health depending on the amount of players in the world. It will automatically adjust whenever a player joins or leaves the world.
